Search "skin elasticity test" and you'll find the same advice everywhere: pinch the back of your hand and see how fast it snaps back. The 5-second snap test, step by step
- Choose the back of your non-dominant hand. It's the standard site because the skin is thin, easy to pinch, and shows age-related change early. Rest the hand flat and relaxed on a table.
- Pinch a fold of skin between thumb and forefinger — the loose skin between the wrist and the knuckles, not skin stretched over bone.

What do the numbers roughly suggest? Broadly — and this is folklore with a grain of truth, not a validated scale — skin in the 20s and 30s tends to snap back near-instantly, within a second or two. What the test actually measures
